Dewayne Dove is the High School Band Director and Music Coordinator for the Russellville School District. He is the director of the Cyclone Marching Band and the Symphonic Band at Russellville High School. This year marks his 32nd year of teaching in Russellville. Other positions he has held during his tenure include Middle School Band Director, 8th Grade Band Director, Sophomore Band Director, and RHS Jazz Band Director. Prior to moving to Russellville, Mr. Dove taught at Greene County Tech in Paragould. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Arkansas Tech University and a Master of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to his teaching responsibilities with the RHS Bands, Mr. Dove teaches the beginning double reeds class, the beginning trombone class, and the beginning horn class at Russellville Middle School. He also coordinates with the RHS Drama Department directing the pit orchestra for the spring musical. Mr. Dove has been an adjudicator and clinician in Arkansas and Oklahoma, as well as a facilitator for professional development on band literature and trombone pedagogy. Mr. Dove is a member of NBA, Phi Beta Mu, AEA/NEA, ABA, and ASBOA. He is a past president of the Arkansas chapter of Phi Beta Mu and is a past president of ASBOA. Under his direction the Russellville Band Program was recognized as the 2016 NBA Blue Ribbon Award for Musical Excellence Southwest Division. He received the Southwest Region UMIASBDA Outstanding Young Band Director Award in 1997. In 2008 he was named One of the 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by the School Band and Orchestra Magazine, and he has been listed three times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He was the 2020 Arkansas Bandmaster of the Year. He plays professionally as a member of the River Valley Brass Quintet. He is married to Sarah. Their son Keith and his wife Leigh live in North Carolina.
